Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Thanks for starting your week with me right here on Ranch Raised! The turning of a page and the changing of the seasons is definitely here. Some areas finally had their first freeze last night. I didn’t get home yesterday until late so I ran out to cover my tomato plants and I’m just praying they survived, and the good Lord granted me another window of time to gather my harvest sometime today.

No matter what season we morph in to, I always feel an internal reset to access what I am whipping up in the kitchen. No matter if it is grilling season, canning season, soup season or whatever, 365 days a year, it is bread baking season in my kitchen! While I have become a sourdough fanatic, the truth is sometimes I lose track of the schedule and just don’t have the brainpower to do all the sourdough math. So, I still love to whip up my standard yeast dough bread recipe. This is the recipe that I got from my grandmother. It is written on the same blue paper that I scratched on, in her kitchen, when she recited her recipe to me because she knew it by heart. It hangs on the inside of my spice cabinet door. I use this for cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, the Nebraska classic cabbage burgers (also known as Runzas) or anything you can stuff into bread dough for a meal. I even use it for our sandwich bread.

But any way you roll it or stuff it, first you have to know my basic yeast bread recipe. And for the first time ever, I am ready to share it with you, right here on Ranch Raised! So make sure you join me right back here tomorrow!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
