Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
The view from the Jones Ranch dishwasher. Welcome to this Tuesday edition of Ranch Raised.
Many know that I am not a woman of fancy things. I have one drawer dedicated to recycled sour cream, parmesan cheese, and cream cheese containers that serve as cereal bowls for my kids and vessels for food to go in hayfield lunches or store leftovers. So if you expected my cabinet of drinkware to be more impressive, then here is where I level with you and further disappoint!
Throughout the years of traveling to stock shows and livestock events all over the country there has been an unexpected blessing. Drinking cups of every color and varies sizes that promote feed, pharmaceuticals, supplements, sheep and goat reproductive services, and even a variety of cattle ranches. We have amassed an impressive collection, folks. Now, I’m not bragging. Maybe this is serving as a warning. If you stop over and I serve you a glass of tea, don’t be offended if it is not in a crystal glass because the truth is, I don’t have anything so fine. And I don’t invest in red solo cups. I’m somewhere on the middle ground. You will be hard pressed to find a complete collection of red Purina drinking cups better than what I serve my family in! You may be lucky enough to get one of the heavy-duty American Hereford Association cups they’ve been handing out this past year.
But, somewhere in the back of the cup cupboard, I save a special stack of drinkware for my most prized guests. It’s the recycled milk replacer cups that I save for when my sister comes to visit. Just because I always love to see her reaction!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
