Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Looking back and looking forward, thanks for starting your week with me right here on Ranch Raised!

After being on the air for a few years, I have amassed a large volume of past shows. I keep them organized by date, in my computer, so I can look back on what I was doing a year ago at that time. It has sort have become my diary, in a way. I truly love looking back and seeing when I debuted a new recipe or I told a story about my family. It often times takes me right back to that day and I can feel what I was feeling, so it is nostalgic to say the least.

There is no doubt that the second week of August has had a clear theme for the last few years. It has brought me feelings of heaviness, darkness, and even some guilt. Approaching back to school time has never been a joyous or celebratory time for me. I have always said that I miss my kids when they are not home. It is not even that I miss their physical being here. I’m not crazy, it’s not like I sit around with a bunch of kids on my lap all day, cuddling, watching movies. I miss watching them do their thing, pursuing their passions, and really living their lives around me! My older kids especially really have their own life rhythm. I miss them heading to the barn in the morning to do their chores for a few hours and coming back in to report to me how it went and what their plans are for the rest of the day. I miss the puzzles being put together and magna tiles and building block creations taking place. I do miss the noise and the life they breathe into our home.

Come back tomorrow because I have some big news about some changes happening. You won’t want to miss this!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
