Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
With July comes a stark realization! The year is truly half way over! Thanks for keeping your radio dial with me right here on Ranch Raised!
2024 has sort of held us hostage. We are in this weird stage of life where we have big changes on the horizon but we have a lot of debris, so to speak, to get cleaned up in our lives, which has us on a timeline held in control by others.
This also seems to leave our kid’s lives in limbo. We have tried to hit the livestock shows they wanted to go to, but they always have goals of entering more. My girls have big 4-H and FFA goals. They will keep charging through, but life has a way of humbling even the most ambitious hearts.
2024 is halfway over and if I’m being completely honest, I think our family would like to get it behind us completely. Unfortunately, we have a lot more of this year to face and we aren’t expecting it to get any easier. What we are gaining from this year is strength and resiliency, even it often feels like this situation is trying to kill us. I am looking forward to the day, in the far off future, when I can look back and say, “we survived”!
So we will just keep pulling on our boots and saddling up to face life’s storms because as they say, “if it were easy, everyone would be doing it.” So here is to the making the best of the back half of the year.
Have a great day and above all, stay safe out there celebrating Independence Day.
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
