Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Trucks, Trains, Tractors, and Automobiles! There are a lot of wheels turning on American roadways, so let’s brush up on some safety issues!

Maybe it is a rural America thing, but when I see news of an accident involving farm machinery, I feel like I am called to use this platform to once again implore all of us on the roadways to take extra precautions, especially during this spring planting time and hauling cattle to their summer grass.

The truth of the matter is that we all want to get home to our family’s every night. The reality is that it will require ALL of us keeping our eyes, ears, and all our senses 100% focused on the road and what is going on in front of us and around us.

Traffic this time of year may involve slowing down for farm machinery moving down the road. It may involve a convoy of cattle trucks running together that may prove hard for you to pass.  It may involve sharper decision making when navigating train crossings and all of the other traffic trying to navigate it as well.

Implore all drivers to put down the phone, take out the earbuds, and get really focused on the road. And because I have a young driver in my home, it is a good reminder for all of us to have this conversation with the young drivers in our families.

Let’s all do our part to have a safe spring and planting season!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
