You know what goes good with Christmas break? Donuts!

Today I’m sharing my Basic Buckaroo Donut recipe. This recipe is so simple anyone can whip it up. My girls have loved getting creative in the donut department. If you love baking, I totally recommend getting a donut pan. I like the metal, non-stick one. If you don’t have a donut pan, you can probably just use a muffin tin for this recipe instead. Try it, live on the edge.

Okay, here we go! I like to use one mixing bowl! I start with my wet ingredients. ¾ Cup of buttermilk (if you don’t have buttermilk just add a tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to the ¾ cup of milk you have, that is what I do), whisk in 2 eggs, 2 teaspoons of vanilla and 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Sift in 2 cups of flour (if you don’t have a sifter, don’t sweat it, just dump), ½ cup of sugar, 2 teaspoons of baking powder and a teaspoon of salt. Fold it all together until just mixed. Fill each donut of the greased donut pan. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes. That’s part of the reason I like making donuts, they bake fast!

I make just a simple drizzle of 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon of milk. You can flavor with a splash of vanilla, almond, or lemon extract, whatever you prefer. Don’t forget the sprinkles if you really want WOW your crowd! Or how about topping with some fresh whipped cream and jam? The possibilities are endless as to how you can jazz up this recipe, so get wild with it!

As always, this recipe can be found on the Ranch Raised Facebook page and on the Your Ag Network app or website! See you tomorrow when I start my 2022 recap countdown!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 3 daughters near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report that is broadcast on 60 radio stations with coverage in 9 states, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and highlights R-CALF’s work on industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
