Welcome to the Friday edition of the HOT BARN REPORT
Heard ONLY on American radio stations across the nation and online at hotbarnreport.com!

Karina Jones, Field Director for R-Calf USA joins us each Friday from her ranch in the heart of Nebraska covering new and important cattle industry news and policy.

Thanks for joining me today on this special Friday edition of Hot Barn Report.

There are a lot of things I could talk about today. Like what made into policy in 2022, what didn’t make it into law. Where we made some headway in the industry and where we lost ground. But, honestly, on a day like today, at the end of a week like we have all had, that doesn’t need to be our focus.

The fact that we all survived these last two winter storms and hopefully with all of our fingers and toes, is what we have to celebrate or at the very least rest upon. I get it, these last two weeks have been challenging beyond words. 98% of the population will never know the depths within ourselves that we have to pull our strength from.

But, as I talked about on my Ranch Raised program, there is something about being thankful on these really hard days that gives us a breath of strength and some wind in our sails.

We are thankful when the sun shines. It makes all the difference in a day, no matter the windchill. We are thankful when our equipment starts and mechanically the day goes off without a hitch. We are thankful when we can keep water lines, hydrants, and water sources open and not frozen. We are thankful when we can get to our hay and get it to our cows. We are thankful when those cows come to feed and I promise you we can read the look in their eye and they are thankful for us.

We are thankful for the modern conveniences of electricity and the men and women who risk they lives to keep it on for us. I know there were some outages in our public power district. Despite the dangerous working conditions those linemen were out in the weather sacrificing a lot, I mean a lot to make sure the young and old were warm and taken care of. Our hats are off to you!

Emergencies and accidents do not coordinate with mother nature so we are thankful for medical staff, first responders, and law enforcement that work in the elements to keep our communities safe.

We are thankful for hot coffee, a warm home, food to sustain us and hopefully all of our loved ones under one roof or at the very least safe under their own roof.

You may not think you have a lot to give, but gratitude and kindness costs nothing! So spread it all around this holiday season.

We are also thankful for these Hot Barns that work hard connecting consignors and buyers to be the platform for the most powerful economic transaction that happens in rural communities! Stockmens livestock, Lemmon livestock, North Platte Stockyards, St. Onge/Newell, Platte Livestock Market, Tri County Stockyards, Torrington Livestock, Creighton Livestock Market, Bassett Livestock Auction, Mobridge Livestock, Ogallala Livestock Auction Market, and Presho Livestock.

Stay safe, stay warm, and have a very Merry Christmas from all of us at The Hot Barn Report!
