Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Happy Monday and thanks for starting your week with me right here on Ranch Raised.

Our family just got back from our annual exhibition trip to the Nebraska State Fair! It was humid, hot, and very people-y….everything you would expect from the Nebraska State Fair. I can’t believe all 6 of us were able to make it work, but with still having our place just an hour from Grand Island, we took all our chores with us to our south place, so we could both enjoy watching our girls compete. It’s not like we have much hay waiting for us up north, unfortunately. Our college girl made a flying trip back to show her lambs. Our high school girl also was showing lambs. Our youngest daughter punched her ticket to the state fair in modeling. They girls also had a pile of static exhibits qualify and I am so sad I never made it over to that building to check out their exhibits. 

My husband and little boy, who rarely leave the ranch, had their fill of the humidity, concrete and chaos. They are both praying for a heavier haying next year so they can stay home and put hay. We all enjoyed being together for a few days, eating some good food and sipping on yummy drinks. We enjoyed the company of great friends and celebrating our own successes and everyone else’s. Let me tell you, just surviving the Nebraska State Fair showing livestock is a WIN! Livestock entries were up very noticeably and the is some thing to also celebrate. After a long weekend showing, we capped it off celebrating all 3 of our girls earning the prestigious designation of Nebraska 4-H Premier Livestock Exhibitors at the Grand Drive. 

Our college girl got on the road and pulled into her Oklahoma dorm around 11 pm. There is no rest for the wicked around here. We’ve got a full day of preg checking heifers at our south place and getting right back into our ranching routine.
