The same but different! Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
We are in a season of life where everyday can feel the same but the occasional surprise lends to some chaos and spontaneity. Mornings start when the sun is peaking through and my husband heads out to take a look through the cows and see who had calved during the night. This also is the time of day that calves are usually getting up to nurse so it is easy to make sure everyone is paired up and feeling good. While he is outside, I get the coffee going and start on some breakfast. Our little guy is usually the first one up, and he wakes up in one mood, HUNGRY!
Breakfast and coffee get consumed. Kids head out to do their chores. My husband makes his rounds doing his first round of tagging new baby calves and then it is time to start feeding. Feeding is the drum beat of every day. It is our constant rhythm. Then we can we attend to the other things on the to-do lists. Fixing fence especially through water ways that are pretty dry right now. The winter wind that would have liked to beat us to death was hard on windmills. So lots of repairs have been in order. Those projects get attempted if time allows completed or sometimes it becomes a fact of getting back to it when time allows.
Then it is back to evening feeding, riding through pairs, and the dance goes on. The work is never done. You never even count on it being done. That is just the way this life is. It is like that proverbial, “song that never ends”. And in some ways that is the harmony that keeps us looking forward to the next day, even if we already know that it will look much like today.
