Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
The answers are not found on a screen! Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
There are a lot of big emotions swirling and fermenting in our country and if there is one thing that I am sure of, it is that none of the answers to any social problems are found on the internet, I mean except when I need to look up my sheet pan pancake recipe.
If there is one place I feel safe, more steady, more grounded, more able to think for myself and more at peace, it is AWAY from a screen. So that is exactly what I plan to do with my family for the next few days. There will be chores. There will be show livestock to work with. Thankfully there is zero internet reception in our barn. Tomorrow I plan to take the kids to grab another couple lugs of peaches to round out our peach canning season. On Saturday, we are going to a craft show to support local entrepreneurs and I’m really excited to try the homemade donuts they will be slinging! Sunday I hope to pop into town with the family for our community’s annual celebration that has a heavy emphasis on the fine arts and of course some more local vendors to support.
I am hoping for a beautiful fall weekend where we spend as much time as possible disconnected from the world wide web and more time connected to each other, our neighbors, and nature. I want to see peach juice dripping down little chins. I want to support local entrepreneurs. I want to hear my kids laugh and talk. I want to feel the fresh air fill my lungs and the sunshine on my face. For I know these are things that heal and solve my problems.

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Merriman, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
