Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Let’s talk about our most precious resources on the farm and ranch, the next generation! Thanks for tuning in to Ranch Raised.

Growing up on a farm and ranch has many benefits for children, but farms can also be dangerous, too!

About every three days, a child dies in an agriculture-related incident and each day about 33 children are seriously injured.  It is a true highlight of our lives to have our children working beside us each day. It also comes with a heavy responsibility, especially in our case when working around livestock.

One of the most common youth related accidents I hear of involves UTVs and ATVs. There are many hazards when operating an ATV or UTV; high speed, rollover, runover, and collision to name a few. Make sure youth are age-appropriate and ready before operating an ATV or UTV.

Protect the most important thing you’ll ever raise. Do all you can to make your farm safe for children. Keep young children out of the worksite and create areas for safe play.

It’s never too early to start a conversation with kids about farm safety. The comic-style book, “Staying safe on the farm with Jaxon” tells the story of the Boomsma family who lost their 7-year-old Jaxon in a tractor-related incident at a relative’s farm in April 2017. The Boomsma family “Keeps Jaxon’s “smile alive” and tells their story to prevent future farm tragedies from happening.

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
