Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
I’ve got the “tea”, literally! Welcome to a brand new week right here on Ranch Raised!
Anyone who knows me will tell you that my preferred choice of an iced cold beverage is always a tall glass of iced tea! Growing up my grandma always had a jar of sun tea brewing on the back porch and when I would pop open her refrigerator, I knew what was in the big mustard yellow Tupperware pitcher, ya’ll remember that pitcher? She always had iced tea ready!
Today is National Iced Tea Day and I am here to celebrate! Did you know that tea has between 800% and 1,000% more antioxidants than fruits and vegetables? Scientists unanimously agree that tea is chock full of antioxidants, which help fight disease. And it doesn’t matter whether you choose green, black, or oolong — all three come from the same plant and contain equal amounts of good stuff.
If you’re trying to kick a soda habit or just looking for a healthier alternative to carbonated beverages, unsweetened iced tea is a great choice. It’s naturally low in calories — helping you lose weight and consume less sugar.
Sometimes, if I am in a hurry to brew my tea, I will run a pot of water through my coffee maker and then add 3 big tea bags to the hot water and let it steep for a few minutes then just pour over ice!
Cheers to you and cheers to me, let’s have a great day with a glass of iced tea!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
