Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
The love of gardening is a seed once sown that never dies. Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised! As we roll through the month of May, those of us who enjoy gardening are getting “the itch”! But much like the farmers in my area who haven’t been able to get into the fields to due to wet conditions and cool soil temps, I have had to show a lot of restraint on getting my seeds and plants in the ground.
However, one can dream, right? I have walked into a few local greenhouses and made a few purchases for gifts. With Mother’s Day right around the corner, vibrant flower pots overflowing with colorful beauty make sensational Mother’s Day gifts. And the sight of those blooms all summer long, will remind your mom of your thoughtfulness.
Our local greenhouses are really a community gem! Not only are they full of beautiful blooms and plentiful plants that can feed your family, but they are also a great source of knowledge that they willingly share with anyone who asks. It is just like any small business in our rural communities, if you don’t support them now, you will wish you did when they aren’t around! And hats off to the school ag programs and FFA chapters who are providing their communities with greenhouse options! You can bet that I totally endorse supporting those kids, also!
So while I wait for the temps to rise a bit more before buying my plants, I will tell you that my rhubarb is loving this cool spring! I think I’ve told you, but, Ill tell you again, my husband is a huge rhubarb lover! So come back tomorrow and I have got a sweet rhubarb recipe to share with you.
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
