Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Farms and ranches around the country are rejoicing!
Thanks for finding Ranch Raised on your radio dial! School is finally out for Christmas vacation which means our child labor has returned home! Farmers and ranchers are making labor lists in their heads of what they can get done while the kids are home. Shall we completely clean the shop and barn. Let’s make sure and build a couple miles of electric fence around corn stalk fields. How could we forget chopping some firewood?!?!

Ahhh, this is the winter paradise that farms and ranches are made of. We have some pens of cattle that need sorted and ran through to stay up to date on their vaccination programs. We need to move some replacement heifers over to their winter range home. Those are all “special assignments” on top of the daily activities of feeding cattle, controlling the chaos in the goat kidding barn and getting around to all of the cattle every day to check on them and chop ice in their water tanks.

For our family, it will be a Christmas vacation, just like all the others. And that is okay. We figure that the first Christmas was simple, so ours can be too!

My advice is, don’t get hung up on making Christmas for your family look like the reruns on the Hallmark Channel and HGTV. Create an original episode, one made by your own family! You will never get this time back, so make sure and spend it together, doing chores of course (wink, wink).

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 3 daughters near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report that is broadcast on 60 radio stations with coverage in 9 states, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and highlights R-CALF’s work on industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
