If you ever want to feel absolutely helpless, vulnerable and stressed to a point that you didn’t know existed, then try calving during a Bomb Cyclone.

This week marks the 5 year anniversary of the historic Bomb Cyclone. I want to walk back in time, and talk about our experience, here on the Jones Ranch, during that event. 

This weather is spoiling us and making our minds wander to places that it shouldn’t quite yet. My youngest daughter just asked me yesterday if we could plant potatoes yet. Yikes, not quite yet! 

I consider shredded roast beef a blank canvas and I am the Picasso. 

Come back tomorrow and I will spill the beans, I mean spill the beef, on all those ideas that I serve shredded beef meals to my family!  

So, what I am trying to say is, I really don’t know much about what is going on, off of the Jones Ranch. I still know one thing to be true, filling the bellies of the ones you love and spending time with them “breaking bread” is worth the time and effort.  

So, I spy with my little eye, baby calves hiding in that tall grass, baby goats snuggled up by their mommas, fresh eggs in the corner of the barn, and green brome trying to peak up from the earth. 
And for today, those things are good enough for me. 

Out with the old month of February and in with some cute new faces! Yes, I finally have new baby news to tell you about. No, not me!

I know that our family is by no means “mainstream normal.” And honestly, we are just fine with that. I have never been the type of person to look over the fence to see what my neighbors are doing and I feel the same way about parenting. Find what works for your family and do that! 

Let this serve as more than a reminder of our civic duty to be helpful citizens, let’s put some feet into motion and some hands into serving. Every hour spent in community service is an hour that you are investing in your community. Afterall, this community is YOURS just as much as it is mine. Let’s let it reflect our best.
