It is an honor to sit back and watch my kids forge their own paths, pursuing their passions that are not mainstream among their peers. It’s not easy to do life differently for today’s teens, it takes courage and extreme boldness.  
But, I know where to find kids of this caliber and a representative population of them usually wear blue corduroy jackets!

Today is the kickoff of the Nebraska State FFA Convention.

It just reminded me how grateful I am that these kids have this small, warm stage to step onto and safely build their public speaking skills and confidence, because it is truly a steppingstone to some many big opportunities they may have in their future! 

You know why everyone is so tired on April 1? Because we all just completed a 31 day March! 

Thanks for opening the month of April with me, right here on Ranch Raised! 

Never miss an opportunity to read to a child! Encourage electronic free time in your home where your young readers must read to you. And even your middle and high school age kids need to read outside of school. 

I have always held to the mantra that “readers are leaders!” 

We will be thankful for the warm up and welcoming lots of new life in the coming days. And when you do what we do and experience it first-hand there is something undeniably miraculous about this season of new life, and I mean that it in more ways than one. Now you can go ahead and ponder on that. 

Once again, we appreciate all of the men and women who are showing up and doing the work both in and outside of the ag industry! And let’s all just say together, “we are one day closer to spring!”

 The history of agriculture in the U.S. is as rich as the soil that we walk our boots on. 

Today as we wrap up the 5-year anniversary recap of the Bomb Cyclone, we will just call fact Friday, because there are hard truths in production agriculture that are not pretty or fun to celebrate. 

I could go on and on about the gory aftermath of the Bomb Cyclone and the destruction, death, and weakness that it left. I can paint pictures with my words but unless you have lived it, you can’t know what was felt.
