Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
It is state championship season for the blue & gold!
Right now across the country, many states are hosting or planning their state FFA Conventions! South Dakota and Nebraska have just crowned their state champions and closed this chapter of their FFA year.
When I tell you that I am awe struck by what these kids in blue jackets are accomplishing in this organization, that is no understatement. I am fascinated that kids are presenting speeches on topics like the shrinking beef cow inventory, GMOs, and grasslands! My 8th grade daughter came home with the state runner up medal in Discovery Speaking educating a panel of judges on the advantages of adding goats to your ag operation.
The skills that are on display are just incredible. These kids are mastering parliamentary procedures that I guarantee the majority of adults serving on boards don’t even know! The are demonstrating skills from how to AI a goat to how to figure application rates of chemicals to welding and mechanics. My 11th grade daughter successfully showed judges how to weigh, administer a subcutaneous injection and drench a sheep earning her 6th place in sheep management out of over 200 kids!
I truly hope that ag education is embraced and celebrated in your school because what these kids are doing and thriving at, is exactly what this world needs! I have no doubt that those who have worn a blue corduroy jacket are world changers both in and out of the ag industry!

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
