Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
The days you never forget! Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
I’ve talked before how farmers and ranchers gauge time by the seasons of their operation. And memories seem to be always be connected to what season the event happened in. Like, I’ve birthed one kid during branding season, one during second cutting alfalfa season, one during precondition, and one during weaning season. See, how our minds work.
Then there are days that you just never forget. Like the hailstorm in August of 2017 that tried to kill our herd and completely ravaged our home and ranch, sort of like the Bomb Cyclone of 2019 also tried.
Well, yesterday was a day we will never forget. All of our bred cows were put on trucks and headed toward new pastures to welcome their new babies. While the timing of moving bred cows was probably not ideal, certain circumstances could not be avoided and the move was a must. I have been alluding to a huge change happening at the Jones Ranch and yesterday marked the beginning of the official move to a new ranch where we will continue our story.
The good Lord gives us roots and wings and it is time for my family to trust our wings and take flight in a different direction than where we thought our life would unfold. There are stages of grief and brokenness in our story but we are ready to turn a new chapter, which seems like we are writing a completely new book. But the story much continue. So cheers to calving season and new life, both literally and figuratively.

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
