Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
Welcome to a brand new week. Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
The world keeps turning and seasons of ranch tasks keep burning. We have the last bunch of calves weaned. Steers are shipped and heifers are settling in, here at home. We are working on more electric fence around cornstalks so we can bring more cows closer to home for the winter where we have more feed. Our barn never sees a break. Baby show heifers are settling right into their new routine. My older girls helped a couple of seedstock producers the last few days clip their bulls and picture them for their upcoming sale. This left the house a little quieter this weekend so I dove into a cabbage burger baking project and got the freezer stocked up with those fast-food favorites. I use my basic yeast bread recipe for those, and you can find it on the Your Ag Network website under the Ranch Raised Recipe Book.
We have wrapped our first big unit of American History at just the perfect point and just in time to focus on studying the history of Thanksgiving for the next few weeks. My girls are excited to try some historical recipes and maybe play with some craft ideas. My third grader is in a unit of animal poetry in her language arts and I wanted to share with you her latest poetic masterpiece,
“The Hereford”
The Hereford is in the field grazing.
Her farmer thinks she is pretty amazing.
Now she has a cute little baby calf
That she is ready to protect with all her wrath.
Now I would say that is written by a young lady that is the definition of “Ranch Raised.”
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
