Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
Happy day and thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised!
I’m not sure if it my motherly instinct or the fact that homeschooling has moved me into a space of being more introspective about what goes on in my home and child rearing. Upon the recommendation of some of my social media friends, I decided to use my time folding laundry and working in the kitchen to have a little background noise going. I invested in my first ever audiobook. I’ve told you before that I am not really a podcast listener unless I can learn something tangible from it, so committing to an audiobook has always been a little foreign to me.
By admittance, I did not start with a book that I would recommend for anyone else’s first audiobook experience. It was pretty heavy content matter and while I’m sure that I would retain more from reading a physical copy, this is what I did at this point in my life.
It took a few weeks, but I finally made it through my first audiobook, “The Anxious Generation.” And let me tell you it was fascinating and terrifying! While I know my kids are blessed to be raised on our ranch, in this way of life, this book has me even more committed to more free play, for all my kids. More trips to the park, more board games, more card games, more device-free family time for all of us, more talks, more walks, more chores, more movement, more meaningful interaction. And all of this doesn’t require raising kids on farms and ranches.
So cheers to raising healthy, happy kids in this complicated, modern world!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
