Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
Welcome to this midweek edition of Ranch Raised.
The fall frenzy is in full force, and I feel like we are a bunch of squirrels running around trying to store up our nuts for winter. Horses and humans are feeling the physical demands of this time of year. It is a time of wet saddle blankets and lots of miles covered. The calves are all worked and will soon be weaned. Lots of decisions to be made, which can sometimes be equally as strenuous as physical work. Will there be enough winter range? Will there be enough hay stockpiled? Oye, the struggles.
But, I still stay rooted in the gratefulness that I have for a house full of healthy kids that are the sunshine in our day. Our oldest daughter, along with many of YOUR kids is exploring the National FFA Convention with a few thousand of her blue corduroy wearing peers! I know as parents, we are all so excited for them to soak in the experience, the speakers, the networking, the shopping and bring all the goodness back home to tell us about. We have a 2-year-old boy who wants to explore anything with wheels. All keys have to be pulled from anything that can start because he has it figured out. Thankfully, we have lots of little mother hens to try and steer him out of trouble.
And as our seasons morph and change, I look for ways to continue to serve my family spiritually, physically, and emotionally because as moms that is just what we feel like we are called to do. Make sure that no matter how the busy-ness of the season is trying to weigh you down, look around and find all that there is to be thankful for.
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
