Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
I started my day with coffee and my obligatory parental quota of peanut butter cups, so that must mean one thing, Welcome to November, also known as the day after Halloween!
Sometimes November blows in like a hurricane and other times it kisses the earth with the suns last bits of warmth as it ushers out the year and is really known as our last month of Autumn. Because of the obvious holiday we celebrate during this month, it is also known as the month of giving thanks and that is where I like to let my head and heart reside.
There is no better time than right now to find the little things in our lives to be thankful for. With the world in a state of chaos and despair, I choose to focus on what is right in front of me. Our home. Our Family. Our ranch. Our life’s work and purpose. I know I cannot solve the world’s problems, but I know that I don’t have to let them be my burden. Maybe that is being dismissive or naïve, but I think being our best for ourselves and family is what we are called to do.
I know this time of year can lead to increasing stress levels leading up to the holiday season. I know this year inflation continues to take its toll on American families. But, I still stand firm that I don’t have to fall into the consumer trap that society tries to pigeonhole us into. You can lead your family however you may want! And do it! Do what makes you happy this season. Do what brings you joy. And give thanks and pour gratitude and thanks all around you. Happy people attract happy people!
So let’s go forth and do this Thanksgiving season together because I will be the first to say that I am thankful for you!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
