Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
We are starting the week with all the fall feels! Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised.
Our family just had a super blessed weekend with family and friends enjoying the gorgeous scenery from the Sandhills to the Black Hills. The fall colors of the prairie were on fire illuminating the rolling hills. Areas of plentiful moisture this summer were apparent as golden grass waved back to us.
The Black Hills were dotted with warm hues of golden and orange bursts of color. There was no shortage of gorgeous scenery on our trip. I am so glad I live in a part of the world that has autumn!
It made for some great conversations as I asked our girls, “Do you think you are more of a prairie girl or a Black Hills & mountain girl.” The reviews were mixed, did you expect 3 female sisters to agree? My oldest definitely sited the challenges or raising cattle year around in the rough terrain, so she will stick to her prairie surroundings. My second oldest daughter could hike all summer and sit by a warm fire, sipping cocoa all winter, so thought she could stick it out up there in the higher elevation. My youngest daughter opted for a more nomadic answer and thought she would just move back and forth.
No matter what way you slice it, the moral of the story is to get outside and enjoy the gifts of the earth because they are never more vibrant and, in your face, than this time of year!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
