Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
Thanks for stopping by this midweek edition of Ranch Raised.
My husband and I have often said for the last 15 years, ranching wouldn’t be near as much fun, if it wasn’t for having our kids alongside us every day. The laughs, the lessons, the conversations make each day a new adventure, not only as we see it through their eyes, but live it right alongside them.
We are late getting into 2nd cutting alfalfa. The rain has kept us out of the fields, but with the sting of a recent drought not forgotten we are deeply thankful for the moisture and we use that gratitude to quench our anxiety about putting up hay. We continue to wage a battle on pink eye brought on by the tall grass. Our troubles are not unique and are stresses are shared by all those around us in agriculture.
I guess that is what makes us keep our blessing at the forefront and trying to forget the challenges. We are blessed to have healthy kids that keep us hopping and tall grass for grazing.
Seeing the barn full with beef and goat projects and the newly added sheep projects, with the stereo blasting, and kids zig zagging around attending to all of their projects was the best medicine for this mama’s soul. They have such big dreams in agriculture. They have such hope for the future. And for right now, I will just enjoy living through their hope and dreams. Come back tomorrow for Fun, Fact Friday!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
