Thanks for joining me today on Ranch Raised! Awhile back I mentioned that a couple of my girls started a big project on my kitchen table during Christmas break. They started making homemade Valentine’s Day cards with intention of delivering them to our local nursing homes. As they were cranking out cards, it became apparent to me that we were going to run short on supplies, so I thought what can it hurt to put out a public invitation to help those who needed an excuse to clean out their craft closets. The response was overwhelming, so overwhelming, we had to turn down a lot offers. The girls even got a surprise Amazon gift delivery of cardstock and stickers from an unknown source. We were so thankful. In a jiffy, the girls were back in card making businesses just working on them whenever they needed to plug in to a creative outlet.
I am happy to report that they delivered 90 Valentine’s Day cards to 2 local facilities. The girls were smiling as big as the staff that received them. The girls learned it feels so good to take your own talents to bless others. And my husband is happy to see the surface of the kitchen table again!
With that project completed, I can assure you that things around the ranch have not slowed down. I’ve got some big surprises to tell you about. But, I’m out of time for today! Don’t lose sleep over it, just meet me back here tomorrow!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 3 daughters near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her current role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
