Welcome to the Friday edition of the HOT BARN REPORT
Heard ONLY on American radio stations across the nation and online at hotbarnreport.com!

Karina Jones, Field Director for R-Calf USA joins us each Friday from her ranch in the heart of Nebraska covering what’s new and important to the family farm and ranch.

AND THE WINNER IS……
Welcome to this Friday edition of Hot Barn Report! Announcing the winner of the contest “Who Imported the Most Brazilian Beef in November?” Survey says, “The UNITED STATES is your winner!!!” What do we get for playing along, Johnny?????

Thanks for allowing me to live out my game show host fantasy. Here is where it turns dark, that info is true. The US was the largest importer of Brazilian beef last month.
So here is where we are with all this compromise talk……

We continue to be the largest importer of beef from a country with BSE issues, an issue that USDA is running from, even though some lawmakers are making attempts to suspend these imports.
We continue to deny the consumer the ability to know where the beef they are purchasing came from and the American cattle producer a national standard of differentiating their beef in the marketplace.

We continue to allow 4 global corporate conglomerates to control 80% of the beef supply chain and exploit the hardest working people on earth, the American farmer & rancher! And we continue to subsidize them with our Beef Checkoff dollars, picking up the tab for their advertising, marketing and research. So that’s fun.

Remember, folks, we got here because some CHOSE to compromise! Instead of standing firm and enforcing the Packers & Stockyards Act and the Clayton Act, they compromised and now we have an anti-trust debacle running the show! This anti-competitive cattle market has led to depressed prices forcing some producers to fold. We are all headed down this path if we don’t right the ship.

Remember folks, we had Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling on beef, but then some cattle industry groups weakened and chose to compromise to support voluntary labeling and we can all see how that has served the cattle industry.

And here we are again, a unique moment in cattle industry time. We have solid, industry changing legislation on the table, but some lawmakers and industry groups are begging producers like you and I to compromise. If history has taught us anything, it is that the cattle industry always draws the short straw in the compromise! I’m staying at the table and I’m sticking to what we have to have in order for the independent cattle industry to even have a shot at being independent and viable for the next generation. If you and I don’t fight for it, it seems no one else will!
Our support is unwavering! Let your senators know that you still urge their cosponsorship of the S. 949 the 50/14 Spot Market bill and S. 2716 The American Beef Labeling Act. There is a lot going on in the cattle industry! So stay update to on the R-CALF & Your Ag Network website and social media platforms.
