BURWELL, Neb. — Rance Bowden earned the all-around cowboy title at Nebraska’s BIG Rodeo, held July 23-25 in Burwell.
Bowden collected $4,973 while competing in tie-down roping and team roping. He placed third in team roping alongside Tyan Johnson and tied for sixth in tie-down roping.
Bull rider B.J. McAbee Jr. delivered the rodeo’s biggest score, riding Beutler & Son Rodeo’s Dump Truck for 91 points and $7,076. Lane Leeper was the only other cowboy to record a qualified ride, scoring 86 points.
Colt Eck captured the bareback riding championship with an 85-point ride aboard Cruella, while the saddle bronc riding title was shared by Garrett Long, Dane McPhail and Traven Sharon. Each cowboy scored 83 points.
Other event champions included Gus Franzen in steer wrestling, Rylee Mills and Garrett Smith in team roping, Mason Stueve in tie-down roping, Lanita Peirce in barrel racing and Kamie Jo Crouse in breakaway roping.
Riley O’Rourke won the steer roping average with a three-head time of 42.1 seconds.
