Winter evenings on the ranch are a season that I definitely look forward to. I really feel like the good Lord gives us this season to rest. Or maybe that is just a rancher saying I know how insane the month of May is, I’m good not rushing into the next season.

Much of the Midwest has been gripped in drought the last few years. Wishing for moisture that would make an impact at replenishing soil moisture ended up affirming the old adage, “Be careful what you wish for.” When Mother Nature decided to give us what we were badly needing, well, it has provided some other extreme challenges.
We knew it was coming. I have become increasingly interested in it because for me it continues to affirm how disconnected our cattle market is from the fundamentals. But, I do think that with in that context it reveals other truths.
