Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
We are off to the races or maybe off and racing into 2025! Thanks for stopping by today on Ranch Raised.
We are in that sort of sweet spot on the ranch, if you can call doing chores in the cold of January a sweet spot. The day is pretty predictable for the most part and there is a rhythm to it. It goes, feeding, feeding, chop ice, feeding, feeding, chop ice….sort of like a waltz, you get the picture. There is a mid-day break for lunch and to enjoy time with the kids.
Our little boy is loving being his dad’s right hand feeding man. Mostly messing with the radio and making sure the blinkers and wipers get turned every time his dad gets out of the pickup.
We have put together some puzzles and have immensely enjoyed a game that I grew up with, but is new to my family, the classic card game of RACKO! There are lots of racetracks and towers being built with magnatiles. My son’s new favorite hobby is washing all of his little tractors and cars, which has been a huge reminder to all of us that we need to put the toilet lid down or we will find a little four wheeled surprise in the bottom of the toilet bowl! My mom brought us a couple of gallons of her homemade hot cocoa mix, so my kids have probably consumed more hot cocoa than they should have. So basically, everything that winter on the ranch should be.
And then it will be back to the waltz of doing evening chores before the sun sets on another day at the Jones Ranch.
I feel like a broken record, but I don’t think it can be said enough. Slow down, stay safe, and stay warm today!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.
Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
