Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
Okay, moms & dads, here is your warning, Halloween is fast approaching, so start throwing together those costumes! Thanks for tuning in today to Ranch Raised.
Living this far away from civilization, it becomes rather easy for me to be able to completely ignore what the rest of society is doing, and sometimes that includes holidays and celebrations. Our ranch calendar is dotted with observances like AI dates, weaning weeks, and cattle working holidays. I know, we are not normal.
More often than not, I am the mom scrambling to pull something together for a class party or even for a mild holiday celebration here at home. And 100% of the time it is because my girls that go to school in town have reminded me of what everyone else is doing, you know in the “real world.”
Halloween is no exception. But, I do want to make my kids’ childhood memorable. So, I try to be creative, with the help of Pinterest and other outside sources and I can usually bring together simple and inexpensive experiences that we can do right here on the ranch.
Come back tomorrow. I have a Halloween punch recipe to share and a weekend activity that my kids love that won’t break the bank but will be rich in creating memories!
In the meantime, what’s everyone got on the menu for supper tonight? I have some hamburger patties thawing, thank goodness for local butcher shops that pre patty hamburger! I’m going to fry them up and then cover them in rich, brown gravy to serve Salisbury steaks with mashed potatoes. Ready, set, go let’s finish getting through this last week of October!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
