There is nothing easy about parenting. My youngest son humbles me daily! I won’t be writing a parenting manual anytime soon. I just focus on the chicks in my nest and let everyone else focus on theirs.
Many know that we have been homeschooling our oldest daughter for a couple of years. Watching her be able to go full out and pursue her passions raising cattle and showing livestock, alongside her schoolwork has been very inspiring to her siblings. In addition is was easy for her little sisters to see that she was building a network of supporters and strong friendships in the circles she was a growing part of. It became natural for them to decide they wanted more of that! They wanted to be surrounded by kids with similar interests and have the time and energy to fully pursue their interests.
So this year, all 3 of my school aged kids will be learning right here at home. The longer that I homeschool, the more education fascinates me and changes me! Learning really is not about prepositional phrases, Spanish American War facts, and geometry. Learning is unleashing a human’s desire to explore, problem solve and grow. We are excited to do more of that not just at our kitchen table, but wherever our hearts desire.
I am so thankful to live in a country where educational choice is a freedom!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
