Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!

Can’t live with each other, can’t do chores without each other! Welcome to National Siblings Day, right here on Ranch Raised!

Who even knew there was such a national holiday, but when I saw the announcement, my mind immediately shifted into the scenarios surrounding the relationships of my kids. My girls can push each others buttons to the brink of a fist fight and then turn around and refuse to do chores unless they all do them together. And no matter what trouble their baby brother makes for them they will all profess that he is their favorite sibling and each of them is confident that they are his favorite sister.

I think that raising them on the Jones Ranch gives us an opportunity to create a bond among our kids that is hard to replicate in other environments. When the buckets get too heavy, the snow gets too deep, when the lamb runs away, the horse runs off, or the heifer kicks you in the shin, there is always someone to help pick you up, catch the critter, and even cuss a little with.

One thing is for sure, I don’t know what I did to be so blessed to be gifted these 4 hooligans, but even through the fights, the pranks, the tears, the screaming somehow, raising them is our greatest joy.

While our spring days may be high gear chaos, I know that with our kids by our side no mountain is too high, no challenge is impossible. Afterall, there isn’t much life can throw at me that my kids haven’t tried on me already.

Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.

Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.

You can hear her almost every Friday on Your Ag Network’s Hot Barn Report, where she deep dives into cattle industry issues and industry reforms. Listen to Ranch Raised on a Your Ag Network hometown station or www.youragnetwork.com where she talks about her daily life on the Jones Ranch.

Cattle producers are her people. She will meet you at the county fair, at the sale barn, or anywhere the dusty trail leads.
