Karina Jones is a real-life ranch wife in the Nebraska Sandhills and one of the most highly sought-after speakers in the cattle industry nationwide!
I’ve got a fun, fact for you today. I love small town America. Thanks for starting November with me right here on Ranch Raised.
Last night, my family, like millions of others, participated in the time-honored tradition of trick or treating. We had a beautiful evening taking the family to town, which in itself is something to celebrate when both parents are able to break away and take the kids to town, for anything! One of our girls chose to go spend the evening with her friends, but we picked up the friend of oldest daughter and set off on the trick or treating trail. We had a pair of teenagers that dressed up as a farmer and his wife and they accompanied our scarecrow and little pumpkin from door to door and all came home with bags full of goodies.
My husband and I were able to sit in the car and creep down the streets with our windows down hearing all the laughter and giggles from so many kids. The costumes were so cute and so creative. I heard “trick or treat” and “thank you” echo down the streets. For a few hours we were able to forget about the troubles that the drought is facing us with or the financial stress our grain farmers are under with poor market conditions. Truly, being out with our family and seeing so many others was a balm to our souls, even for just a little while.
I just want to start off the month by reminding us to be thankful for all things big and small. I’ve been through my share of tough times, and it never fails that gratitude is always the medicine to face the challenges. So cheers to making November one to remember!
Karina ranches with her husband, Marty, and 4 children near Broken Bow, NE. She grew up in western NE, with roots also in southwest SD. The cattle industry and raising kids is her passion.
Watching the cattle industry go the path that it has gone, she could no longer sit quietly at home checking cows, fixing fence, and doing all the everyday tasks wondering when some else was going to make it all better. As she became more active and outspoken on industry issues, she was asked to join the R-CALF USA staff in September 2020 as the Checkoff Petition Campaign manager. That position transcended into her former role as full time Field Director for R-CALF USA.
